The Mariana Islands are the southern exposed portion of a submerged
mountain range that extends approximately 1570 miles from Guam, almost
all the way to Japan. Included in this group of islands are the United
States territories of Guam Island and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
The latter includes the islands of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.
The Mariana Islands were formerly known as the Ladrones Islands.
Marshall Islands
The Marshall Islands are a group of Micronesian atolls and islands
that are all part of the Republic of the Marshall Islands. They are
located just north of the Equator and just west of the International
Date Line, north of Nauru and Kiribati, east of the Federated States
of Micronesia, and South of the United States Territory of Wake Island.
